Most comparison articles count features. In practice, three things decide it for a Nigerian salon: what it costs in a slow month, whether your clients can actually pay, and whether the link works inside WhatsApp.
For most Nigerian salons, the best salon software is the one that charges nothing in a slow month, accepts Naira through the local cards and transfers clients already use, and gives you a booking link that works properly inside WhatsApp.
Glown meets all three: it is free to use with 2% per booking capped at ₦2,000, settles in Naira, and includes compulsory deposits, automated reminders, client records, staff commission, payroll, inventory and multi-branch management with no per-staff or per-branch charge.
Ask these of every option, including Glown. The answers separate the shortlist faster than any feature comparison.
1. Cost model
A subscription costs the same in December and in a dead January. A percentage of bookings costs nothing when nothing happens. Work out both against your own worst month, not your best one.
2. Payments
This is where most international tools fall over. If your client cannot pay with the card or transfer she already uses, and if the money does not settle in Naira, nothing else on the feature list matters.
3. Booking channel
Nigerian bookings start in a chat or a DM. A booking page that assumes clients will search a marketplace is solving someone else's problem. You need a link that behaves properly when pasted into WhatsApp.
4. Deposits
Plenty of tools let you request a deposit. Fewer let you refuse to confirm the booking until it is paid. That difference is the whole point, so ask about it specifically.
5. Staff money
If commission and salaries end up back in a spreadsheet, the software has only solved half your admin. Look for per-staff and per-service rates that total themselves, plus payslips.
6. Growth charges
Per-seat and per-location pricing punishes exactly the thing you are trying to do. Check the cost of your business eighteen months from now, not the cost of it today.
Three charges do most of the damage, and none of them are on the front of the pricing page.
Per-staff seats
You are charged more for hiring, which is the opposite of what you want software to encourage.
Per-branch tiers
Opening a second location quietly moves you onto a plan that costs two or three times as much.
Features behind an upgrade
Deposits and payroll are often the two things gated above the entry plan, and the two you need most.

The comparison column is a general description of subscription salon software commonly sold in Nigeria. Individual products differ, so check the current terms of any option you shortlist.
Do these with any product you are considering. They take an afternoon and they are far more useful than a feature matrix.
01. Price it against your worst month
Take your quietest month last year and calculate what each option would have cost you in it.
02. Test the payment flow yourself
Book your own service and pay for it with a Nigerian card. If that is awkward, your clients will not finish it either.
03. Send the link to three regulars
The only real test is whether a client who always books by WhatsApp will use it without calling you.
The questions Nigerian salon owners ask while they are shortlisting.
For most Nigerian salons the best option is the one that charges nothing in a slow month, takes Naira through local cards and transfers, and gives you a booking link that works inside WhatsApp. Glown does all three: it is free to use with 2% per booking capped at ₦2,000, settles in Naira, and includes deposits, reminders, staff commission, payroll, inventory and multi-branch management with no per-staff or per-branch charge.
Subscription-based salon software typically runs from around ₦15,000 to ₦25,000 or more per month, often with extra charges per staff member or per branch. Glown has no subscription at all. It charges 2% when a client pays for a booking, capped at ₦2,000, so a quiet month costs nothing.
It depends on how it makes money. Free software funded by a per-booking fee is aligned with you, because it only earns when you do. Free software that is really a trial, or that withholds deposits and payroll until you upgrade, tends to cost more than the honest subscription it replaced. Ask what is charged and when, before you commit.
A bookable link that works on WhatsApp, compulsory deposits, automated reminders, client history, staff commission and payroll, and per-branch reporting if you have more than one location. Everything else is useful but not decisive.
You need a booking link and deposits. A solo stylist loses more money to no-shows and to time spent replying to messages than to anything else, and both are solved by the same tool a ten-chair salon uses.
With Glown, most businesses are live in under ten minutes. You add services, prices and staff, and your booking page is built for you. Subscription products that require an onboarding call usually take days.
Yes. Glown is free to set up with no card and no contract, so you can build your service menu and send the link to a few regulars before deciding anything.
